2D Animation Feedback

2D Animation Feedback

This is my 2D animation that I have made.

This is the Link to my Pallet Wall for you to leave your comments.

http://padlet.com/djadam14/my2Danimation

What is your own personal response to the animation you have
been produced?

My own personal response to my animation is that I think that my animation is okay because the characters don't really move but it is still okay with out them moving. Also I think that the characters that I choose are good and I kept them theme of using PlayStation characters. Also I think the sound effects and the music that I used are good and fit with the animation.

What is your response to the feedback you have received?

This is the first feedback that I got that was from Lewis. He thinks that my 2D animation is good. My response to his feedback is good and that I agree with his feedback.

The second feedback that I got was from Alex. He thought that my 2D animation is nice and he likes my ideas as well. My response to his feedback is good and that I agree with his feedback.

The third feedback that I got was from Luke. He thought that my 2D animation is simple and could have been improved. My response to his feedback is good that I agree with his feedback.

The fourth and least feedback that I got was from Declan. He likes my 2D animation and likes the ideas that I used and gave it a 4/5. My response to his feedback is good and that I agree with his feedback.

Based on this level of response, how could you have improved your production?

Based on certain comments I could improve my 2D animation by doing some things. The first thing I could improve was said by Lewis and he said 'could of been better if you moved the characters more' So I could improve my 2D animation by moving my characters more for example I could move the characters at the being when the come out of their game boxes which is shown in the image below.

The next thing that I could improve was said by Alex and he said 'Although I though there could of been a clearer ending.' So I could improve my 2D animation by making the ending a lot more clear by having something going on in at the end which people would understand whats happening which is shown in the image below.

The last thing I could improve was said by Declan and he said 'i think the sound volumes were a little bit loud' So I could improve my 2D animation by make the sound that I used a bit more quieter.

Will you make these improvements to your production based on your feedback?

If I was to make my 2D animation again then I would do all the things that I would need to improve it that was said in my feedback but I won't make the improvements now because I don;t have enough time to make them.

2D Animation Plan

2D Animation Plan

In this assignment I am going to design and make my own 2D animation sequence. The 2D animation sequence will be 15-20 seconds long and I it will have a sound track, text and effects in it. Also I will be using Adobe Flash to make the 2D animation sequence and I will create the characters in Adobe Illustrator. The style of my 2D  animation will be a simple funny cartoon with funny cartoon characters in the 2D animation sequence. The theme of the 2D animation sequence will be PlayStation icons.

I got my idea from a game which is called PlayStation all stars battle royale. This is a fighting game with some PlayStation icons fighting against each other. So I decided to make a 2D Animation like it using 3 other PlayStation icons that weren't in the game and 1 that is. The 3 characters that aren't in the game are Taz, Spyro and Crash Bandicoot and the one that is on the game is Sly Cooper.

I have have researched 2D animation that has been used in games and I am going to use the research from my first assignment . Another place you can see 2D animation is Video Games. Video games is a very popular way people see 2D animation that has been around since 1940 and is still a very popular thing today. The only place you could see 2D animated games when they first came out was in arcades and now you can see them at home on consoles and even on your mobile phones. Some examples of 2D animated games are Sonic, Mario, Worms, Pokemon, Space Invaders, Pac-Man and many more.

This is a video of Sonic the Hedgehog's 20th anniversary which shows his old 2D animated games.

The target audience for my 2D animation will be for the anyone over 4, males and females, mostly gamers and any PlayStation fans. My 2D animation is suitable for anyone over 4 because it has no violence in it that is inappropriate for children and it has cartoon game characters in it that they will know. Males and females will want to watch my 2D animation because it has characters in it that they will both know and like. It is mostly for gamers because it is about game characters so mostly gamers will know who they are. It is also good for any PlayStation fans because it mostly has PlayStation characters in it.

Make this a title sequence so they don't have to fight and it will be easier to make.
Put some other playstation icons in as well at the beging and end.

This screenshot shows that I have started my 2D animation. I have created a new stage on flash.
This screenshot shows that I have put the first thing onto the stage which is the background for my 2D animation. I got this image from google images when I searched for PlayStation all stars battle royale and I have saved it into the library and my folder.
This screenshot shows that I have put the nest image onto the stage which is an image on the TAZ Wanted PS2 game box. I have got this image from google images when I searched for Taz Wanted PS2 and I saved it into my library and my folder. This screenshot also shows that I have made the images into a motion tween and have put them in key frames.

This screenshot shows that I have put 3 more images onto the stage. The other 3 images are the Sly 3 PS2 game box, Spyro 3 PS game box and Crash Bandicoot PS2 game box. I got these images from google images when I search for them and I have saved them into my library and my folder. This screenshot also shows that I have made the images into a motion tween and have put them in key frames.

This screenshot shows that I have put 4 different images onto the stage which are images of Taz, Sly, Spyro and Crash. I got these images from google images then I traced them in Flash. I have saved these images in my library and my folder. This screenshot also shows that I have made the images into a motion tween and have put them in key frames.
This screenshot shows that I have put 4 different images onto the stage which are images of Taz spinning, Spyro Flying, Crash Jumping and a bang. I got these images from google images then I traced them in Flash. I have saved these images in my library and my folder. This screenshot also shows that I have made the images into a motion tween and have put them in key frames.
This screenshot shows that I have I put two new images onto the stage and have kept the same two of Taz and Spyro. The 2 different ones are images of Sly and Crash. I got these images from google images then I traced them in Flash. I have saved these images in my library and my folder. This screenshot also shows that I have made the images into a motion tween and have put them in key frames.
This screenshot shows that I have added a title at the end which says PlayStation All Stars and I made this image on cool text then I saved it into my library and added it to the stage. It also shows that I have put 6 different images onto the stage. The images are images of Sackboy, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Delsin Rowe, Kratos and Sweet Tooth. I have saved these images in my library and my folder. This screenshot also shows that I have made the images into a motion tween and have put them in key frames.

This screenshot shows that I have added a title at the start which says PlayStation All Stars and I made this image on cool text then I saved it into my library and added it to the stage. This screenshot also shows that I have made the images into a motion tween and have put them in key frames.

This screenshot shows that I have started to make my sound track for my 2D animation. I am going to make it on Adobe Audition.
This screenshot shows that I have put 4 different sounds into my multitrack and they are Taz spinning, Blast, Cartoon Fall and PlayStation all stars theme song. I got these sounds from YouTube.

This screenshot shows that I have shortened the track and put it in order so that it goes with my 2D animation.

This screenshot shows that I have added the sound track that I made onto the stage of my 2D animation.

This screenshot shows that I have added credits to the end of my 2D animation that I have created on Cool Text and it says 'CREDITS CREATED BY ADAM DJ MILLER'.

This screenshot shows that I am going to export my 2D animation from Flash and I have saved it in my folder.

This screenshot shows that I have exported my 2D animation from Flash and it works.

HISTORY OF 2D ANIMATION

Traditional 2D animation Techniques

Traditional 2D animation techniques are what started 2D animation. So without the traditional techniques the 2D animation that you see today might not exist or 2D animation might be as good as it is today. Some of the traditional 2D animation techniques are the flick book, cel animation, rotoscoping, drawn on film, photographic stills; digital techniques for 2D animation 2D bitmap graphics, 2D vector graphics and application software.

One of these traditional 2D animation techniques is the flick book. The flick book is an old and traditional way to see 2D animation. The flick book is a collection of combined images on paper or card intended to be flipped over to give the illusion of the image moving and it creates an animated sequence  from a simple small book without using a complicated machine to see 2D animation. The flick book was created in 1868 it was patented byJohn Barnes Linnett under the name kineograph (Latin for "moving picture").
This is an image of what the first flip book (the kineograph) looks like and how it was used.

This is a video if someone using a modern day flip book. This flip shows a T'Rex coming alive just by flipping some pages in a book.

Another traditional 2D animation technique is cel animation. Cel animation is a type of animation that is used in the production of cartoons or animated movies where each frame of the scene is drawn by hand. A full-length feature film produced using cel animation would often require a million or more drawings to complete. Some examples of cel animated films and cartoons are Toy Story, Looney Tunes, The Simpsons and many more greats like these.

This is an image of what cel animation looks like before it goes on TV. It shows the background plate and a cel with Bugs Bunny on it.

This is a video of Looney Tunes. Looney Tunes was made by using the traditional 2D animation technique which is cel animation.

Another traditional 2D animation technique is drawn on film. Drawn on film is animation that's drawn directly on the film reel, using a number of tools, techniques, and methods. This skips the entire process of cel animation, photographing, and video sequencing - or the more modern process of digital rendering. Instead, drawn-on-film animation imposes the animated image directly on the individual frames of a reel of film. Some examples of drawn on film animation is the lion King, Aladdin, Mickey Mouse and many more.
This image shows someone doing the drawn on film animation technique. It shows him drawing on a film reel of an animated film.

This is a video of The Lion King. The Lion King was made by using the Traditional 2D animation technique drawn on film.

Digital 2D animation techniques

The digital 2D animation techniques that are produced in flash are what people use to make simple and easy 2D animations but they can also be used to make complex and hard 2D animations. Some of these digital 2D animation techniques are Motion Tween, Scale and Rotate, Putting in Text and using Sound Files.

The Motion Tween digital 2D animation technique is a simple and easy technique to learn and use. Also it is a really important technique that you would need to learn to make a digital 2D animation. The motion tween technique is how you move a digital 2D object  in a 2D animation. I have shown how to do the Motion Tween digital 2D animation technique and a working example of the motion tween technique.

This is a blank stage where I am going to start my 2D animation. But before I started I made sure that I have a frame rate of 25fps and a stage size of 550 pixels by 400 pixels which is on the right of the screen.

The next thing that I did was to import the image of the rocket onto the stage.

This image shows that I have imported the image of the rocket into the library which I can put onto the stage. Then the next thing that I did was to convert it to Symbol and save the rocket file as a Graphic.

Then I selected the key frame 75 on the timeline which is the end of the 2D animation.

Then I put the image of the rocket on the stage and then I dragged the rocket file off stage and click Frame 1 on the timeline.

Then I dragged the rocket image in a straight line to the right off stage and I selected Key Frame. After I did that I placed the right Mouse button over the rocket and selected Classic Tween.

Then I tested it and it worked good. Then I saved it and exported it. When I saved it I went on save as .fla file and export as animated gif to put on my blog.

The Scale and Rotate digital 2D animation technique is another technique that is simple and easy to learn and use. The scale and rotate technique allows you to scale a 2D image to what ever size you want it to be and it allows you to rotate the image any way you want to rotate it. This technique is another important technique to learn to make good digital 2D animations. I have shown how to do the Scale and Rotate digital 2D animation technique and a working example of the scale and rotate technique.

I have created a new flashFile Action Script 3.0 in Flash CS6. Then I changed the size of the stage to 600 pixels by 550 pixels and I have a frame rate of 25fps.

Then I imported the image of the green eye into the library in flash. Then I put the image of the eye onto the stage.

After I put the eye on the stage I converted the eye into a symbol as a graphic by using Modify>Convert to.

I changed the size of the eye by using Modify>Transform>Scale to reduce the image in Frame 1 to a maximum of 40 px in height.

Then I selected key frame 100 and I made the eye bigger by using Modify>Transform>Scale to enlarge the Eye and to fill the stage but I made sure to not overlap the edges.

I have flipped the image vertically by using Modify>Transform>Flip vertical and I used the right Mouse button to create a Classic Tween.

I have saved the animation and I have exported as a animated gif.

The Putting in Text digital 2D animation technique is another simple and easy to use technique that is used in a lot of 2D animations. This digital 2D animation technique is very easy to learn so you can simply use it in any of our digital 2D animations. This technique allows you to put in and use text on any digital 2D animation. I have shown how to do the Putting in Text digital 2D animation technique and a working example of the putting in text technique.

This screenshot shows that I am going to put some text onto this 2D animation. This is a 2D animation that I have done earlier and on this 2D animation the T'Rex's tail moves up and down.

This screenshot shows that I have inserted some text and I did that by clicking on the Text icon in the toolbar and the Text column at the top of the screen which allows me to edit my text. The text that I have inserted says 'RRRROOOOAAAARRRR!!!!' because that's what a T'Rex says.

This screenshot shows that I have edited the text. I have edited the text by changing the colour of the text to green and that I have made the text bold changed the font to Jokerman and have moved the position of the text and have scaled the size of the text to make it bigger.

This screenshot shows that I have inserted some shapes which are ovals and I inserted these using the oval shape tool. I have changed the line colour to green and the inside colour to blue and green.

This screenshot shows that I have applied a tween to the text by using Modify>Convert to Symbol>Graphic before I added into a key frame. Then I added it it to a key frame.

This screenshot shows that I have successfully added text into a 2D animation. The text comes up at the end of the animation after the T'Rex puts his tail down. I have exported this 2D animation by going to File>Export Movie as an animated gif and I have saved it as a .fla file.

The using Sound Files digital 2D animation technique is again another simple and easy to learn and use for any digital 2D animation. This digital 2D animation technique allows you to import any sound  you want into any of your digital 2D animations. I have shown how to do the using Sound Files digital 2D animation technique and a working example of the using sound files technique.

This screenshot shows that I have found the sound that I want to use in my 2D animation which is the T'Rex 2D animation. The sound that I want to use is the Jurassic Park T'Rex roar.

This screenshot shows that I have downloaded the T'Rex roar as a .wav file and I am importing the sound file into the library.

This screenshot shows that I have imported the sound file into the library.

This screenshot shows that I have put the sound of the T'Rex roar onto the stage from the library and that I have put it onto the timeline on the key frames.

This screenshot shows that I have tested my 2D animation with sound and it works.

This screenshot shows that I have exported my 2D animation by going to File>Export Movie as an windows AVI and I have saved it as a .fla file.

This shows that I have successfully added sound to my 2D animation.

Pioneers of 2D animation

http://www.timetoast.com/timelines/2d-animation-history

2D animation has been around for ages and it is used and seen every day by all over the world. 2D animation was even around in the 1650's this is not the 2D animation that we see today though. So it was thought that 2D animation was created in 1650. In 1650 the Magic Lantern was created and was thought to be the first projector and was considered the first stage of 2D animation. The Magic Lantern works in a similar way to the projectors that are used in the modern era, This uses a reflective mirror in front of a ray of light which shows the image on a flat surface. This technique was very famous as it lead people to believe that they were seeing the supernatural.

This image shows what the Magic Lantern looks like.

This images shows how the magic lantern works.

A pioneer of 2D animation is Joseph Plateau. He is a pioneer of 2D animation because he created the Phenakistoscope. The phenakistoscope was the earliest device that was invented for animation and it was invented in 1831. The phenakistoscope is just a disc that has a lot of images on it that have been drawn onto a radii and the images would be in different areas on the disc. Then the disc would be spun and the images would be viewed by a person watching the disc spinning through the slit that is on the device. To the viewer this would look like a moving sequence, hence the illusion of animation was created.

This is a video of different phenakistoscopes that people have made. It shows you what they look like when the disc spins.

Another pioneer of 2D animation is William George Horner. He is a pioneer of 2D animation because he created the Zoetrope. The zoetrope was created in 1834 just after the phenakistoscope. The zoetrope was based around the phenakistoscope and is a spinning device where all of the images are placed on the inner side of the device. The zoetrope was designed like this so that the images don't blur together when it is spinning and so the viewer can clearly see the full 2D animation sequence which creates the illusion of motion.

This video shows the Zoetrope working and how it works. The animation on the Zoetrope which is shown is a horse moving.

Another pioneer of 2D animation is Thomas Edison. He is a pioneer of 2D animation because he created the Kinetoscope. The Kinetoscope was created in 1889. The Kinetoscope was invented so that anyone would be able to see a moving 2D animation by looking into a peephole that was implanted on top of the device. At the time it was created the Kinetoscope was most common form of watching a film in the cinema. The Kinetoscope worked by a strip of film that contained many images this would then be put over a high speed shutter that would then display the sequence of the film.

This video shows a virtual recreation of the Kinetoscope.

The work of Developers

Walt Disney is one of the most famous and well known people in the world for creating Disney. Walt Disney is an American motion-picture and television producer and showman, famous as a pioneer of cartoon films and as the creator of Walt Disney World and Disney Land. Walt started of making cartoons for a newspaper and then after working for the newspaper he went to work at the Kansas City Film Ad Company, where he made commercials based on cutout animation. While he was working there he started to experiment with a camera, doing hand-drawn cel animation, and decided to open his own animation business. He made a lot of films when he was in in his own animation business and he called them Laugh-O-Grams. The cartoons were hugely popular, and Disney was able to acquire his own studio. They made a series of seven-minute fairy tales that combined both live action and animation, which they called Alice in Cartoonland. One of he first and popular characters was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. A few years later Walt found out that someone had stolen the rights to Oswald, along with all of Disney’s animators, except for Iwerks. So and the team decided to straight away produce some cartoons with featuring a new character that Walt has been developing. That was Mickey Mouse and the first successful cartoon the Mickey Mouse was in was Steamboat Willie.

This is a video of Steamboat Willie and it was created in 1928. After this everyone really liked Mickey Mouse and wanted to see more of him and all of his friends which are Mini Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck and Goofy. These all became very popular and so that decided to make a lot more cartoons with them in.

Over the Years Walt Disney and every one at Disney created a lot of great cartoons and famous movies such as Peter Pan (1953), Mary Poppins (1964), 101 Dalmatians (1961), Toy Story (1995), The Lion King (1994) and many more. Since 2000 Disney movies got more advanced and started bring out a lot more than before. Most of the newer Disney animations are greats such as Monsters Inc (2001), The Lion King 1 1/2 (2004), Cars (2006), Toy Story 3 (2010), Wreck-it-Ralph (2012), Frozen ( 2013), Big Hero 6 (2014) and many more. Recently Disney has bought the rights to the biggest company's in the world which are Star Wars which Disney bought in 2012 for $4.06 billion and Disney bought Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion.

This is a video of one of Disney's newest animated movies Big Hero 6 and it was created in in 2014.

Warner Bros is an American media company that makes film, television and music entertainment. Warner Bros was founded in 1923 by Albert Warner, Harry Warner, Jack Warner and Sam Warner. Warner Bros produces a lot of great animation TV shows such as Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Adventure Time, Scooby-Doo, The Batman Animated series and many more.

This is a video of Scooby Doo all star laff a lympics. The Scooby Doo all star laff a lympics is an old TV show with a lot of Warner Bros favourite characters such as Scooby Doo,  Hong Kong Phooey, Yogi Bear and many more.

Warner Bro also do a lot of great animated movies as well. Some of these movies are Space Jam, Yu-Gi-Oh the Movie, Pokemon the First Movie, South Park Bigger, Longer and Uncut and many more movie. This is a video of the trailer for Space Jam which was made in 1996. Space Jam is an animated and real life movie with the Looney Tunes and Michael Jordan and they play Basketball.

Formats of 2D animation

2D animation can been seen almost anywhere toady all over the world. There is also a lot of different things that you can see 2D animation on to see 2D animation anywhere in the world. Some examples of where you can see 2D animation is cinema, TV, adverts, music videos, mobile phones, internet and video games. In the cinema's you can any type of 2D animation film that goes into the cinema's. Cinema's is one of the first and only places you could have watched 2D animation in the 1900's and is still a very popular place to watch 2D animation today. Some examples of 2D animated films that have been in the cinemas are The Simpsons Movie ( 2007), The Lion King (1994), Lilo and Stitch (2002), Aladdin (1992) and many more.
This is a video of The Simpsons Movie Trailer.
